Dear reader,
I'm writing from a very hot rain-soaked Sunday, the weather that marked the first days of this New York Fashion Week.
Jewelry takes on a life of its own when it adorns the human body, serving as the canvas for its beauty and significance, as it reacts to movement, colors and light.
On the other hand, the people wearing them gain both confidence armor and tools to create a sense of belonging and standing out. This becomes particularly essential in vibrant urban centers like New York, São Paulo, Berlin, Milan—where one's identity often finds deeper expression through what they wear, as they serve as the only visible cues.
I fondly remember the excitement of the early days of personal blogs when remote people-watching was made possible, further enriched with arguments and links. Today, platforms like YouTube and newsletters continue to excel in this realm, just as I hope for The Foyer to do so.
Here are the most amazing people I saw on the street, and my thoughts on why they were particularly so interesting.
The first person I photographed on Friday was John. The bracelet, the thin earring and the hat were delicate and transformative elements of an impeccable look. Something of a discreet and very charming eccentricity.
Alissa was wearing an excellent example of how the chain style can elevate the entire look. The sculpted pendant depicting a body is both striking and beautiful, leaving a lasting impression of her.
Karla made an interesting choice with those vibrant enamel earrings, evoking the weight and boldness reminiscent of the 80s Yves Saint Laurent style. Honestly, I'm quite drawn to something similar now, perhaps vintage pieces from TRR, 1Dibs, and Etsy).
Asia was very much in line with what has been seen on the runways. These earrings look like a silver sheet modeled like a liquid surface or the gentle flutter of silk in the breeze, very Prabal Gurung.
Jayne-Marie wearing a weighty necklace with a charming heart theme, resembles what we've during this European summer (think Matilda Djerf and Lie).
Emma, that bracelet of yours!!! Plus the very Motomami butterfly pendant. Chef’s kiss.
I saw Blackchai in the final minutes of his work break, and he graciously allowed me to capture his portrait. Unfortunately, the rain hindered me from properly showcasing the engraved ring he was wearing, but you can still get a glimpse of its beauty.
Andrew with handmade earrings—your cousin made such an amazing bead composition!
Chawklit left the house knowing he was beautifully adorned, I'm sure. Each element is clearly intentional and well-placed. One of the standout features was the earring, which added a touch of understated elegance with its graceful, subtle movement.
Now, a trio of Argentine women who looked like they had stepped out of a music video or rock concert that I would love to go to.
Martina: The choice of chokers is so well done that the neck appears to be a seamless extension of the outfit.
Florencia: The silver elements lining from her ears to her hair formed an elongated upward curve that accentuated her face.
Guada: This earring is iconic (and perfectly connected with the recent article Rhinestones by the pound).
Among the people I intend to personally "steal the look" from is Gabe. White, cream, and silver. The shirt collar that lets the chains be seen in the back as well. How good is that?!
Erickson used a recipe with similar logic, but very different ingredients. Primary colors with black, a strong silver chain with a sculptural pendant.
Both Gabe and Erickson embodied elegance in its clearest form—considering the idea of a person of elegance as a person capable of electing every element of how they present themselves. Everything appears to have been intentionally chosen, but with a je neis sais quo.
Lili—the combination of gold and silver metals deeply strengthens the look. This watch model is also a great idea for personal signature jewelry.
Jasmine had chrome silver on the nails, on the bag, on the boots, on the earrings. These hoops had a lot of character and movement (and I wish I had included it in the Hoops for days article).
Samantha with its necklace of repeating motif pendants is extremely interesting. A similar concept was addressed by Collina Strada.
Cayenne and I met at one of the events. Look at her necklace: she makes jewelry by hand with thrifted beads. I loved it and so did Julia Fox.
Well, the rain got worse, and I didn't manage to take a good photo of my jewelry. But I leave here the intention and a reminder to talk about this necklace in a future opportunity :)
Thank you for reading, enjoy your week!
Signing off,
Ísis
Why is everyone wearing silver????? I've been seeing EVERYONE on the streets wearing silver, especially the younger ones, and perhaps one person in 50 is wearing gold. What's the deal with silver?? I really don't like it but wearing gold makes me feel old (even tho i'm 27) and out of place.
